Coke is a type of solid fuel. Obtained by dry distillation of coal under high temperature conditions of about 1000 ºC. The main component is fixed carbon, followed by ash, which contains very little volatile matter and sulfur. It is silver gray with ametallic luster. Hard and porous in texture. Its calorific value is mostly 26380~31400 k/kg (6300~7500 kcal kg). According to different uses, it can be divided into metallurgical coke, foundry coke and chemical coke. According to size, it can also be divided into block coke, crushed coke and coke chips. It is mainly used to smelt steel or other metals, and can also be used to manufacture Water gas Raw materials for gasification and chemical industries.

4. To optimize the technical and economic indicators of blast furnace operations, smelting coke (metallurgical coke) must exhibit specific chemical, physical, and thermal properties essential for the smelting process.
5. Apart from its extensive use in iron and non-ferrous metal smelting, coke also finds applications in casting, chemical production, calcium carbide, and ferroalloys.
